The Hope of Beauty

Friday, December 9, at 7:00pm I will be speaking at Calvin Presbyterian Church in Cumberland Rhode Island. I titled the lecture, The Hope of Beauty – or maybe the Beauty of Hope – it depends on what you look at. I had trouble deciding which one it was. As I have been putting the talk together and really thinking about these two concepts I realized why. In my understanding, Beauty and Hope are very similar concepts expressed in different languages. At some point I’ll write all about this – flush out the idea beyond an hour lecture – but for now, if you’re interested, you’ll have to come tomorrow night and find out what I mean. It’s free and open to the public. Hope to see you there.

Silent Things open next month!

My newest work will be exhibited at the Eric Schindler Gallery in Richmond, VA November 18 through December 21. I will be in town for the artist reception on Friday November 18 from 7-9om. Come on by and see what I’ve been up to.

nothing like fresh paint

palatteThere is nothing that smells the same. Fresh oil paint on the palette. linseed oil. wood. I love putting new paint out on the palette; I always put one color that has no business being there. One color that is a challenge for me. That’s that little glob of lavender rose madder there – my challenge for the day.

On the task of website redesign

I would love to have entitled this post “New and Improved Website; Fully Functional, Updated and Without Typos.” Yes, I would have loved that. But we all know that isn’t really a possibility. I have stared so many hours at this screen and drank so much coffee, I’m surprised I can even type at all. So, enjoy what is here so far, look forward to what’s to come, and pardon my mistakes in the meantime.
