Bring out the hidden beauty

Embedded within this painting is a page from a 1924 woman’s magazine. The adverts offer all kinds of things to make you into the woman that you should be. The one that rang true to me was the promise to “Bring out the hidden beauty” that rang out in one ad in particular. The meaning of these words and the interpretation can be two very, very different things. This piece is part of my current work looking at the relationships between the individual and cultural norms that we have all inherited.

Deep lines are etched across the surface of the piece, drawing connections and delineating space that captures the adverts page. The painting is hand stretched gallery wrapped deep canvas with a finished white edge.
