Afternoon behind and Quiet

Oil paint and waxes on cradled wood panel
20×24 inches

From the series One Thousand Strengths, this piece is very subtle in it’s colors. Deep horizontal lines embed into the wax surface, sometimes faintly, sometimes with brightness.

The wax surface is full of texture and has a natural softness to it. I use pharmaceutical grade beeswax combined with some resins to create a wax which paints on at about 140 degrees. Oil paint is sandwiched between the layers, fused with heat, to create beautifully deep wells of color, even when the paintings are lighter. Wax paintings should not be hung in hot areas or direct strong sunlight. Also, don’t leave it in your car.

Unframed and wired to hang
