A special thank you to everyone who came out the opening of The Common Quiet. It was a lovely evening made all the more so by reuniting with so many old friends. Some days. especially summery days, you just have to put everything on hold and go to the shore. Beavertail State Park is my favorite place to go; it’s all rocks shoals and tidal pools. No sandy barefoot beaches to be found. Just beautiful, terrifying rocks being worn away by the waves.
I just returned from driving halfway across this country to hand deliver new work to the Moberg Gallery in Des Moines, Iowa and then onto Kansas City to hand off more artwork that will be making it’s way to Taipei, Taiwan. Thankfully, I didn’t have to drive it all the way there. I’m good on driving for a bit.
Friday, December 9, at 7:00pm I will be speaking at Calvin Presbyterian Church in Cumberland Rhode Island. I titled the lecture, The Hope of Beauty – or maybe the Beauty of Hope – it depends on what you look at. I had trouble deciding which one it was. There is nothing that smells the same. Fresh oil paint on the palette. linseed oil. wood. I love putting new paint out on the palette; I always put one color that has no business being there. One color that is a challenge for me. That’s that little glob of lavender rose madder there – my challenge for the day.
I would love to have entitled this post “New and Improved Website; Fully Functional, Updated and Without Typos.” Yes, I would have loved that. But we all know that isn’t really a possibility. I have stared so many hours at this screen and drank so much coffee, I’m surprised I can even type at all. So, enjoy what is here so far, look forward to what’s to come, and pardon my mistakes in the meantime.
